Slocum Disaster

In 1904, New York City suffered a tragedy in the great fire on the pleasure cruise of the Slocum on the East River. This caused the scattering of families in the strongest German neighborhood in New York. The loss of life on in the maritime disaster on June 15, 1904, was, until September 11, 2001, the greatest in New York  history.
